V2 is a complete rewrite of the pattern generator, to provide a much better UI and the ability to generate basic shapes. More features to come.
Test your patterns on paper or scrap fabric before committing to your good materials, as there may be bugs. Please let me know any issues you find.
Here’s a quick guide to get you started on your first pattern.
1. Canvas Movement
- Mouse+Keyboard: Hold shift and click the canvas to move around. Or click and hold the middle mouse button. Mouse wheel to zoom
- Mobile/Touchscreen: Use two fingers to pan and zoom the canvas
2. Place Your First Point
Click or Tap anywhere on the white canvas to place your first point. This point is the start seam of the gusset (middle piece): red 'seam' point. Every bag gusset needs at least one seam!
3. Draw Your Shape
Continue to add more points and define the outline of your side panel.
4. Edit Your Shape
- Move a Point: Click and drag any point or group of points.
- Add a Point on a Line: Click on a line segment
- Toggle Seam, Delete or Rename: Click on a point itself to open a menu to delete, rename, or mark it as another seam point.
5. Close the Shape and Add Seam Allowance
When you have at least 3 points, you can close the shape by either pressing the `Enter` key, clicking the very first point and selecting "Close Shape", or the "Close Shape" button in the sidebar.
A 3D preview of your bag will be shown at the bottom of the options sidebar
6. Set the Scale
Your drawing needs a real-world scale. You can either:
- Use the "Grid Square =" input in the sidebar.
- Or, more easily: Right-click a line segment, choose "Set Line Length", and enter its known real-world length.
7. Generate Your PDF!
Use the options in the sidebar to set your seam allowance and finished bag width. When you're ready, click the Generate PDF Pattern button. Your multi-page, tiled pattern will be created instantly.
8. Donate to Support Free Patterns and Tools
These pattern generators and other free projects take a lot of time. If you find it useful and want to support, you can donate at ko-fi.com/pricklygorse
You can also support by letting me know of any issues and feature requests. Lots more features to come in the future.
